Most breakage happens because a fragile item moved inside its box. Packing is mostly about stopping that movement.

Crockery and glass

Wrap each piece on its own, then pack plates on their edge rather than flat, the way they sit in a rack. Fill every gap so nothing can shift, and keep the box small enough to carry without tilting.

Mirrors and glass tabletops

Tape a cross over the glass to hold it together if it cracks, cover it in padding, and move it upright in a frame or crate rather than lying flat under other goods.

Electronics

  • Photograph the cable connections before you unplug
  • Use the original box where you still have it
  • Pad screens and never lay a television flat

The box rules

  • Heavy items in small boxes, light items in large ones
  • No gaps at the top of any fragile box
  • Label the side as well as the top

A note on the bond

Boxes you pack and seal yourself sit outside the bond, because we cannot vouch for what we did not wrap. If you want fragile items covered, let our crew pack them.
