Society Paperwork Before a Move

Gate passes, lift slots and no-dues clearances are where most moves stall. What each one is and when to start it.

In most Indian apartment societies, a vehicle cannot enter and goods cannot leave until the paperwork is cleared. Starting it late is the most common reason a moving day loses hours.

The gate pass

Most societies want the move registered in advance, with the date, the vehicle and sometimes the crew named. In large complexes the pass also names the tower and block, so the crew reaches the right entrance.

The service lift slot

Where there is a goods lift, it is booked to a fixed window. Two towers may share one lift, which makes the slot short. The load is planned to finish inside it.

The no-dues clearance

Many societies require proof that maintenance dues are paid before goods may leave. This is separate from the gate pass and is often what holds a move up, because residents start it on the morning.

When to start

  • No-dues clearance: at least a week ahead
  • Gate pass: a few days ahead, confirmed the day before
  • Lift slot: as soon as your date is fixed

We start the gate pass and clearance at the survey visit, so they run alongside the rest of the planning rather than after it.

Tell us where you are moving from and to. A surveyor from the nearest branch calls to book a visit, and the figure comes after that, in writing.
