Storage

When Storage Between Homes Makes Sense

A lease that ends before the new home is ready is the most common reason to store. When it helps and when it does not.

Storage is rarely something people plan for. It usually appears when two dates refuse to line up.

The usual reasons

  • A lease ends before the new flat is handed over
  • A society refuses a move-in date until paperwork clears
  • A transfer where new housing is not yet allotted
  • A renovation at the new home runs late

When it helps

If the gap is more than a few days, storage is usually cheaper and safer than leaving goods on a truck or in a friend’s garage. They are held on racking, insured the whole time.

When to move directly

If the gap is a day or two, a direct move with an adjusted date is simpler. Storage adds a second delivery leg, so it only earns its cost over a longer wait.

How it is priced

By volume and period, at a rate fixed when you book. If the new home is delayed further, the number of months changes but the monthly rate does not.
